 Title: おとめ妖怪ざくろAlt Title: Otome Youkai Zakuro Volume: 1 Author: Hoshino Riri Rating:  Synopsis: The setting of the manga is alternate Meiji era (one of my favourite era) where youkai (demons) and the humans coexist together. The military opened up a new department called Ministry of Spirit Affairs and appointed 3 military personnels to work alongside the youkai, although in this case instead of youkai, the girls are all hanyou (half demon). Our heroine, Zakuro fell in love at first sight with her new partner, the charming Agemaki Kei but shortly after they introduced each other, Zakuro found out that Agemaki is actually a loser who's scared with youkai. On one occasion, Zakuro and Agemaki were assigned a mission which require them to travel to another village. They ended up sleeping together in a cramped room but Zakuro used pebbles to draw a line between their futon and forbid Agemaki from crossing the line. Their mission was to exterminate a demon which had been eating the village women and children (because their bodies are softer....ugh). Zakuro managed to kill it but Agemaki felt that he was a useless partner because she had to keep rescuing him all the time. However Zakuro said that wasn't true. Besides Agemaki, there is another military personnel called Yoshinokazura Riken who's partnered with Susukihotaru. They had a mission to retrieve a cursed sword from an antique shop. However when Susukihotaru held it, she was possessed by the sword and tried to kill Riken. Luckily though, Riken managed to stop her. Susukihotaru was so distraught for injuring Riken but he said that he was glad she was safe. Personal thoughts: Notice this is the only manga that I rate 5 stars so far? Lovely art, excellent plot and not many cliche scenes. I also love the characters' names especially Riken and Ganryuu (aaaah so lovely!!!). I'm not going to write much details for the next 3 volumes because I don't want to spoil the anime (which is a must watch!). Anyway, my favourite couples so far other than the main couple will be Susukihotaru x Riken. They're just SO lovely together. Susuki is initially scared of Riken because he is big and tall but he got down on his knees and asked her if she was still scared of him in that position and she blushed (who won't???!!!).
